Back to School

This is the part where it starts getting too cold for my taste. I'm strictly a summer girl. But I bought this special lamp that's supposed to keep you from getting the winter blues. I hope it works. O, special lamp, save me if you can.

I have to think of a Halloween costume.

I haven't been in school for - what? - 5 years now, but I still think of life as divided up into fall semester, spring semester and summer. Maybe it's the college teachers for parents thing, I don't know. But I always make my new year's resolutions in the fall instead of on New Year's Eve. It always makes more sense to me that way. By the time New Year's Eve rolls around I can't think of anything to resolve besides making it through the winter. This year, though, it's going to be different! The special lamp will change everything! I'm going to get more CD's made and really professional-looking press kits, and I'm going to start playing all over the place, and it's going to be cool. I went and saw Almost Famous on Saturday; man, that is a cool movie! Even if all of the characters and the whole plot sucked, it would still be worth going to just for the soundtrack. I've always loved Cameron Crowe's movies because he puts soundtracks together like a true music fan would; he doesn't just release a mishmash of whatever's current. It made me remember all the bands and songs I truly loved before OD'ing on classic rock in high school and turning to the indie scene. From which there is no return.

You know, listening to the radio makes me feel old. I love it when they play the songs I liked from the 80's, and when I listen to the current stuff I just scratch my head and wait for the appeal to kick in. I mean, there are plenty of good songs, and there are some good bands, but mostly I just don't get what the kids are listening to these days. And that's kind of scary. Soon there will be all-80's stations marketed to my demographic, and what's worse, I will probably listen to them. Dude, what am I saying? I never listen to the radio. It takes too much time away from my music collection.

I'm going to start noting exactly what's in my stereo at home, my CD player at work and my car tape deck at the time I write my entries. That'll be pretty funny when I get caught listening to something really uncool, huh? But I think I'm OK for now, even though I'm always a little behind. I'm just now discovering Aimee Mann. Well, I mean, I was a huge 'Til Tuesday fan, back in the day, but I didn't know her solo stuff was so good. She kicks.
